Summer Camp Update

From Lynn Watson

As Summer begins, and the flowers are in full bloom, and daylight is nearly at its peak for the year, the favorite past time of Scouting is here – Summer Camp!

Camp Horseshoe is open for Summer Camp from June 25th to August 12th, and Horseshoe has been in near-constant operation since 1928.

For those unfamiliar with the happenings at Horseshoe, summer camp provides numerous opportunities to participate in activities for all age groups.

From the Challenging Outdoor Personal Experience (COPE), Specialist Interest Program (SIP), Aquatics, Campcraft, Shooting Sports, Field Sports, Handicraft, Nature, Trailblazers, and STEM, are some of the activities in which Scouts may participate.

Troops can attend summer camp for one week or two weeks, depending on their troop. Meals are included, and the Horseshoe staff provides needed support to all Scouts attending camp.

Merit badges can be achieved during your stay, along with the chance of meeting new friends, learning leadership skills, and growing as an individual.

I have heard many Scouts say that they came into summer camp with one mindset and left with a whole new perspective on themselves, their goals, and Scouting in general!

The Marketing committee is also collecting videos and pictures of Scouts’ adventures at camp. They want to spotlight what is going on at Horseshoe Scout Reservation and all the fun our Scouts are having, so consider sending any photos or videos of summer camp to share on Social media to [email protected].
