Staff Week (Pre-Camp) Project Team

Each Spring, there is a strong, dedicated team that travels to Horseshoe Scout Reservation to assist with projects to get the camp ready for summer camp.

This team arrives a day or two before the Camp Staff arrives and spends approximately a week performing projects, in advance of the first troop or pack arriving for Week one.

Organized by William (Bill) Grubb, Jr., work is done at each campsite that includes (but is not limited to): weed whacking, power washing, painting, tree trimming, pool preparation, etc.

Each Spring Bill requests help from those who can devote the time needed to help get Camp ready for the summer camp season.  This would be a great opportunity to work a couple days (admittedly somewhat arduous) but it really helps get the Camp looking good for the opening.

On Friday, June 14th (also Flag Day) the group will meet at Horseshoe and weed whack/mow around Staff City, the showers, and generally around the loop.

On Saturday, the team will work at the 13 campsites so that they are ready for the full staff to set them up in a single visit (aka one fell swoop).  A couple of the team will stay over into Sunday (Father’s Day) to finish as necessary, but that isn’t expected.

Usually focusing mainly on Horseshoe, this year they have also been asked to help with the campsites at Ware, so an extra team of three (or two teams) would be wonderful.  Many hands make light the work.  For those able to stay over, some of the team stay in Lisle (they’ll have the pavilions clean); others stay in their troops campsite since everything is vacant.

If you want to join the ‘in’ crowd, please contact Bill at [email protected] or text him at 301-514-9985.  Oh, by the way, it is really helpful to bring your own tools.

It is important to make a first, great impression for the Scouts and Scouters who visit Horseshoe Scout Reservation in late June, and the Pre-Camp Team is a way to make that a reality!
