Job Description

ScoutReach Program Specialist / Boy Scouts of America: The Program Specialist position is a part-time Scout Leader who will lead multiple Scouting programs in the Chester County area. The Program Specialist is expected to provide an active and engaging after-school Scouting program for local youth. The ideal candidate will be self-motivating, friendly and can work independently. This position reports to the Council ScoutReach Executive. 

General Responsibilities: Lead Scouting activities together with the program aide for Cub Scouts ages 6-11 in an afterschool setting or Boy Scouts ages 12-18 in the evening. Program Specialists serve 2-4 locations each week and may work occasional weekends. The Program Specialist can average 5-15 hours per week depending on their availability and the unit’s meeting times. Programs take place in public schools, housing communities, community centers, churches, and other locations.

Work will include:

  1. Leading weekly Cub Scout or Boy Scout meetings

  2. Assisting with promotional activities in the community to help recruit more youth and adults into Scouting

  3. Monthly Program Specialist meetings / training sessions

  4. Registration and advancement paper work 

  5. Occasional assistance at weekend Scouting events (such as campouts, trainings, or daytime programs)

Expectations: Anticipated hours per week are 5-15 hours, salary based on your experience. Consistency, willingness to learn, and strong communication is expected of applicants. All applicants should represent Scouting in a positive manner. Dual language in English and Spanish a plus.

 Qualifications:

  1. Must be at least 18 years of age  

  2. Successful completion of Youth Protection training (done online on my.scouting.org)

  3. Submission of a BSA Adult volunteer application which includes a background check and PA clearances.

  4. Prior experience/desire to work with elementary aged youth 

  5. Able to perform moderate physical labor

  6. Interest in community service, the environment, and team building

  7. Ability to work in a team as well as independently

  8. Reliable transportation 

  9. Prior Scouting experience is not required

  10. Strictly adhere to all BSA policies.
