Every year Cub Scout packs struggle to grow, making up losses from the year before and working to add a few more. The problem is not the loss of Webelos bridging into Boy Scouts so much as it’s the Tigers, Cubs, and Webelos that we lose along the way. Well, there’s great news. We have a new program for Cubs that has increased retention by 20% everywhere it’s been tested and tried. Interested? You need only follow a few simple steps: 1. Get your leaders trained for their position. Starting June 20, 2010, ALL basic training for Cub Scout leaders will be available online (we will continue to offer traditional classroom training) 2. Use the meeting plans outlined in the new Den & Pack Meeting Resources That’s it! All of your handbooks (Tiger, Wolf, Bear, Webelos) remain unchanged. While the Leader Book has been streamlined, the content remains unchanged. The only completely new resource is the Den & Pack Meeting Resources. Replacing the old theme-based Program Helps and offering updated delivery methods, this new resource may be purchased in the Scout shop or online in either a print version or in a downloadable PDF form. Individual den meeting plans can be downloaded at no cost. You can find more information as well as downloadable resources at www.scouting.org/cubscouts%202010.aspx

The Packs First Three Months is a resource of great "start-up" ideas for new packs. It provides three months worth of fun and easy to plan programs that any pack can use to get off to a GREAT start. (Also available in Spanish.) NOTE: This is a well organized but large (7MB) pdf file! If you just need ideas for a den, choose the document below.
Program Ideas for the First Month of Den Meetings This is a great blueprint for the first four meetings of a new den. In this document you'll find ideas on setting a den code of conduct, how to organize your first den meetings, and a program that supports new Scouts in earning the Bobcat badge. |
