Patch Design Contest for Stroud Water Research Center
Submissions accepted until September 30th, 2017

Patch Design Contest!


Submit an activity patch design to Stroud Water Research Center’s Education Department. The winning design will be used as activity patches for Stroud Center Boy Scout, Girl Scout, and other youth programs. Contestants should review the mission and education programs of the Stroud Center at www.stroudcenter.org. Hand-drawn sketches, computer generated designs, and other types of artwork for the patch are accepted. Be creative and consider patch shape and multiple colors.

Submissions should be emailed to education specialist Jen Totora at jtotora@stroudcenter.org by Sept. 30, 2017. Include your name, age, address, and troop or other youth organization in your email submission. Top three designs will receive a daypack full of fun materials from the Stroud Center. The grand prize winner will receive a daypack, a FREE hands-on program at Stroud Center for their troop or group, and the artist will be credited with the design on our website and social media. Winners will be announced mid-October.

Please note: It is now mandatory for any person who operates a chainsaw on the Horseshoe Scout Reservation to have successfully completed the Chainsaw Safety Training Program as per the Boy Scouts of America and the Chester County Council.

Session class sizes are limited.
Pre-registration is required.

Start Time: 9 a.m.
Location: HSR Training Facility – Magua Lodge (House on the left prior to going down into Camp Ware)
Qualifications: Must be at least 18 years of age
Must be in good physical condition
Must be registered with the Boy Scouts of America

Program cost: Free
Course Length: Approximately 3 – 4 hours (depending on class size)

The HSR program will incorporate safe chainsaw operation and tree felling procedures as outlined by the U.S. Forest Service and the BSA National Camp School Ranger section. The next course will be offered Saturday, December 2, 2017.

Chester County Council Cub Camporee (C5)

Registration has opened for the Chester County Council Cub Camporee 2017 at Paradise Farm Camps in Downingtown. All current and hopeful Cub Scouts and their parents are invited to attend! C5 will include games, activities, outdoor learning, team-building, crafts, and camping sleepover.

Check-in is on Saturday, October 14, 2017 between 11 am and 1 pm (please eat lunch before arrival) and activities will take place all afternoon. Dinner will be served Saturday, followed by campfire ceremony, an outdoor movie, and a campout. Breakfast will be served the next morning and the event will conclude with closing activities on the Paradise Farm grounds.

Cost: $25/youth and $20/adult

Chester County Council is excited to offer the 2018 Merit Badge College! Scouts will have the opportunity to earn up to four non-Eagle merit badges (or three Eagle-required) by completing pre-requisites in advance of the first session, completing additional requirements between the two sessions and attending and participating in the two Saturday class events.

Merit Badge Counselors and support volunteers are needed to make this event a success! If you can volunteer, please send an email to: MeritBadgeCollege@cccbsa.org. Sons of volunteers will be able to register early!

Connect is the Northeast Region Area 6's training event, and some of the types of topics that will be offered include what a Venturing Officer's Association is, how the different levels work, communication skills for recruitment and promotion, advancement trainings like time management and goal setting, etc. The event is open to all Venturers on the Crew/District/Council levels and above. There will also be fun games and more that is still in the making under planning at the moment, bur more information will come out as we get closer to the event!
